Most patients feel distressed and are terrified at the thought of undergoing a root canal treatment. However, minimal discomfort and pain is possible during this procedure with the right methods and procedures by our experienced and skilled dentists.
A root canal treatment removes the pain and swelling that is caused by inflammation of the dental pulp. There are many factors that may lead to this including dental decay, cracks, and trauma to the tooth. Under any of such instances, bacteria enters the pulp, infects it and contributes to pulp death. The dentist will treat the tooth by cautiously removing the infected pulp and fill up the root canal space to seal it from future infection. Our aim is to save the tooth; an extraction is the last resort and will be done only if that is the best treatment plan.
We recommend that you proceed with a root canal treatment as soon as you are diagnosed by the dentist as more pain and complications may arise after the infection flares up. Do not worry though as no matter the circumstances, our dentists’ will alleviate any discomfort with local anaethetic. We understand that patients can be extremely anxious being faced with this treatment and we are here to make sure that your visit is as pleasant and comfortable as possible.

Administering Anaesthatic : Any discomfort you may feel will be eased down with local anaesthetic, and the relief and numbness experienced is almost instant.
Isolating the Tooth: Once adequate numbing has been applied and making sure that you do not feel anything, a dental dam is placed over the tooth to keep it dry and isolated from your salive.
Opening the Tooth: A small incision is made at the surface of the tooth, into the pulp chamber.
STEP 4
Removal of Infected Pulp/Tissue: To remove the pulp and any infected tissue from the root canals, small cylindrical files are used.
Cleaning The Canals: Then, the canals are thoroughly cleaned, shaped and prepared to be filled with gutta percha (a rubbery material that is used as permanent filling).
Tooth Filling: A temporary filling is placed atop of the gutta percha to cover the opening of the tooth.
*This step may be optional*Placing A Crown/Permanent Filling:The filling remains until the tooth receives a permanent filling or a crown. It is then placed atop the tooth. We recommend placing a crown as it is more suitable to protect the tooth after the treatment as the tooth is prone to become more brittle and can lead to fracture. If the fracture is severe, extraction may need to be done.
